GREEN

This was suppose to have been yesterday's post, but I had some technical issues and well, it just didn't happen.

Wearing green? **Pinch, Pinch** if you aren't!

Green. There is the color and then there is the mindset. Mind you, I'm all about being ecological responsible - not because I'm a big "global warming" fanatic or any other extremist, I just believe in trying to be as ecologically responsible as possible.

Take some time today and educate yourself about fabrics and the environment. As a Home Economics major in college (I think they call it "Consumer Science" now) and someone who has sewn and been 'in love' with fabric my whole life - I think it's not only important to know what's what about fabric but also that not all plant based fabrics are necessarily the best "green" choice.

Although the plant based fabrics like bamboo and modal (made from the beech tree fibers) may seem like a real "green" way to go - but in actuality they are really pretty much a "wash" when it comes to the "green factor". Even though these plants have short growing cycles and are hardy, pest-resistant plants, they require a great deal of chemicals to process them to the point where they can be made into fabric.

Since I can remember, I've been a lover of natural (now 'organic') cotton, linen, silk and wool. These fabrics are still your best bet. Find them locally - look for companies that use local resources whenever possible.

P.S. In case I forgot to mention...I LOVE fabric! :)
