As the New Year rolls on I've been diligently reviewing each and every consumable product I touch and am asking myself "Is there a more Eco-friendly alternative for what I'm using? Do I REALLY "need" this?"
Today in the kitchen as I made my coffee - bingo! Coffee filters!! Right now I'm using white paper filters every day! I am going to get a re-usable coffee filter instead. I've been tossing my coffee grounds (I know, I know - shame on me!) but will be composting those now.
At Christmas I was given two candles by Glade. They were in an odd shaped glass holder and were pre-filled with wax and wick. The scent and color were great - but they did not burn well leaving a lot of wax behind. I've started a "wax jar" for all old unused wax and will add to it as I deplete my candles to re-use for emergency candles that I will make myself. I washed the jars out instead of tossing them and recycled the little metal brad at the base that the wick is held in.
I brought home SEVERAL canning jars my father was getting rid of! Whoa! I took them in a heart beat. Not only will they be used for canning this Spring, but I use them to store all kinds of things: buttons, bobbins, etc. The rings and lids were all rusted beyond use so those were tossed in the recycle bin.
Not bad for my first hour awake today!
